Playing Cards

Project
I was tasked with creating 4 playing cards with a front and a back. One of the cards had to be noticeably different from the rest.
Idea
My idea for this project came from one of my favorite bands named King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. They have such a fun and colorful art style used in their albums and posters which I used as inspiration for this project.
Sketches
I went on with my idea in creating characters based on the name, and common themes shown up in their music. Sketched in ProCreate. The names of the cards in order are King Gizzard, Queen Serpantine, Lizard Wizard and The Magic Ace. These are a play on the traditional playing cards King, Queen, Jack, and Ace.
Illustrations
Inspired by the artist for the band, Jason Galea, I wanted to create my own style from it. I wanted the colors to pop and the characters to pop from their background. I wanted it to have a somewhat "electric feel" to the playing cards, which is why I used zig-zag tapered lines and a burst for the background.
