Map Project
Computer Design 2 / Spring 2022
Project
The goal of this project was to take a map, and redesign it having an interesting heading, icons, labels for those icons, and various features around the map.
Idea
The idea for this project was to take the map of one of my favorite games growing up, and redesign it. I went with the game The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. I wanted to go for an isometric approach for this project, as to show the depth better. The game is typically visualized using dark colors to encapsulate medieval times. I wanted to make this map capture the more fun and fantasy side of the game using bright colors to make the map pop.
Sketches
I started with sketching out the icons and landmarks that would be seen through out the map. That included the 9 main cities and an icon for the other smaller villages.
Icons
The village icon went through a couple variations before deciding on making the village icon isometric as well.
Landmarks
I knew I wanted to split the map between the green and snowy areas, so I made a variation of mountains and trees for each.
Map
I drew out the map, including the major water sources and rivers, and tried figuring out where I wanted to divide the snowy and non snowy regions.

Final
It was time to put it all together, color, and add a cloud boarder to section off the part of the map I wanted to show.
